Bonjour! Have you read my yesterday’s blog about running with a unicorn? It was a Bingsu with rainbow marshmallows on top that look like a unicorn. DO you know Bingsu? Have you ever heard about Bingsu, shaved ice or Namkhaeng sai before?
What is Bingsu?
Bingsu or Patbingsu is a popular Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings that may include chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and red beans. The original of Patbingsu was just shaved ice with red beans on top. Pat means red beans in Korean. Then, it comes with various topping so they called Bingsu. It is very popular in summer in Korea.
Thai Shaved Ice
In Thailand, we have a dessert which looks like Bingsu, it called Namkhaeng sai. It is also top with syrup, fruit and Thai dessert. As Thailand is tropical, the shaved ice is popular all year round.
Korean Bingsu vs. Namkhaeng sai
It is very same, made of ice with syrup and sweet topping. The difference is the shaved ice texture. Bingsu has fine flake and softer than Namkhaeng sai. Namkhaeng sai’s topping is Thai sweet but Bingsu is mostly top with fruits.
Namkhaeng sai or Bingsu is not ice cream. It is very different from ice cream. It tastes is totally different, you should try it. When the weather is super hot, Namkhaeng sai or Bingsu is really good. Think about how cool is it when you have a cold drink in Summer, Shaved ice is like you chewing the ice and feel the cold in your mouth. You’d better try it!
Au revoir & See you tomorrow
